BJP minister Chitnis in dock for misusing govt funds

Bhopal: The Minister for School Education Archana Chitinis is in the dock for allegedly misusing Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan fund to the tune of the nearly Rs 15 crore to favour a magazine published by trust headed by a senior functionary of Rashtriya Swyamsevak Sangh (RSS).
The Congress legislator Dr Govind Singh, who represents Lahar assembly segment in Bhind district, has lodged a complaint with Lokayukta here on Wednesday demanding action against her under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
According to the complaint, the education department under the influence of the minister began subscription of a magazine namely Devputra published by Saraswati Bal Kalyan Nyas and paid Rs 14.38 crore. The amount, the complaint said was paid for its subscription in schools
between 2009 -11. Under agreement, the government has entered with Krishna Kumar Asthana who heads the trust a student will get two copies each of the monthly periodical for the next 15 years. The agreement with the trust, the complaint said was made ignoring the objections of the senior officials of the education department by the minister to favour the RSS.
Moreover, the magazine was not for use to students of Classes I - II. Even the minister refused to choose a magazine from the list of 100 magazines the Central government had listed for the state governments' to recommend for the schools, alleged. Under the Sarva Shiksha Abiyan a fund allocation of Rs 19.20 crore was earmarked for the year 2009- 10 and Rs 8.21 crore for 2010-11. The minister paid 90% of the sum much in advance.
