Govt to strengthen teachers' training programmes to achieve target of RTE

The government today said that it will strengthen the teachers' training programmes to achieve the target of Right to Education in the country. Talking to media persons in New Delhi, HRD Minister Dr MM Pallam Raju said that total sanctioned posts of teachers for this purpose is 20 lakhs and only 12 and a half lakh could be filled till date.

The Minister said that during the 12 th Five Year Plan, the Centre has proposed 6308 crore rupees for the purpose. Dr. Pallam Raju said , to meet the challenge of shortage of teachers, the government has proposed to set up Block Institute of Teachers' Education.

The Minister said that the Centre is committed to acheive 30 per cent Gross Enrollment Ratio, GER, in Higher Education by 2020 which is at present is only 18 per cent. Dr Pallam Raju said that Centre is also giving stress on skill development
