School admissions under RTE Act as per schedule

MYSORE: Admission to schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act will go on as per schedule despite the private managements seeking a probe into the veracity of income certificates submitted by parents.
District authorities said if parents have submitted certificates with false income details, "we will initiate action after cross-verification". However, all private schools have been directed to adhere to the admission schedule.

Admissions are scheduled to begin on March 15.
CBSE, ICSE and State Private Schools Management Association president R Raghu, on behalf of 150 institutions in Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu districts, has appealed to the deputy commissioners to probe the genuineness of income certificates.
"To get their children seats in private schools, a majority of parents have submitted certificates saying their annual income is between Rs 8,000 and Rs 11,000. We want the administration to probe this thoroughly because actual beneficiaries will be deprived of seats," said Raghu.
Calling the matter serious, Raghu said: "We have submitted copies of income certificates to the deputy commissioner of Mysore to get them verified as we suspect a majority of parents who have sought seats for their children under RTE are well off."
Deputy commissioner Ramegowda informed STOI: "We are probing the allegation of the Private Schools Management Association. I am getting the copies of income certificates submitted by the association verified by the respective tahasildars."
The top bureaucrat, however, said the process of admission will continue because genuine applicants should not be put to inconvenience. "If any parent/guardian has given false income details, he will be prosecuted. Besides, a seat will be denied to his ward," the deputy commissioner said.
