NEW DELHI: All Urdu-medium schools under the Delhi government are to be upgraded to the 12th standard soon to provide senior secondary education in the same language, said education minister Arvinder Singh, on Monday.
He added that Urdu teachers will be recruited for science and math streams. Two lakh desks are also to be provided for schools run by the Delhi government. The meeting was attended by Haroon Yusuf, minister of food supply and power, Diwan Chand, secretary of education, Amit Singla, director of education as well as principals and teachers of Urdu Medium Schools.

Yusuf announced that one Urdu language teacher will be appointed in every government school where Urdu students are enrolled. He added that their recruitment process should be reviewed regularly to speed up the process. He informed that once the new school at Seelampur opens, the total number of Urdu medium schools in the capital will be 22.
Singh also said that a sufficient number of Urdu teachers will be recruited by the Directorate of Education shortly, and that the recruitment of guest teachers has already started.
He expressed his displeasure about teaching posts lying vacant and issued instructions to DOE to start the recruitment process at the earliest. He also stressed on the availability of better infrastructure facilities like proper school buildings and desks for all government schools.
The government has decided to procure more than two lakh 'ultra-modern' desks for government schools to solve this purpose.
