Trivandrum: With an aim to provide education for every student in Kerala including the differently-abled children, home based education will be offered to special kids under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan scheme.

“The kids who were identified as disabled participated in the medical camp organised by SSA. A team which included qualified doctors examined them and prescribed the range of the disability of each kid. The teaching aid for every kid will be prepared according to the doctor’s prescription. Most of the kids have learning disabilities which would make them feel inferior to the normal kids. Hence they will be provided home-based education,” said an SSA official    .

A resource teacher will be appointed under this scheme and 3,334 differently-abled kids will thus have the right to education - these kids are usually deprived of regular school education. The main objective behind this education pattern is to teach the children with special needs in an environment which is most comfortable for them.

SSA had conducted surveys at the block level to find out children with special need, in the beginning of this academic year. According to the research 1,88,051 children were found with special needs in the age of 6-14.

Last year 2,305 students were provided home based education under this scheme.
