Workshop to reduce syllabus burden on kids begins

ALLAHABAD: A six-day workshop on review of syllabus for students from class VI to VIII was inaugurated on Thursday at State Institute of Education under the aegis of the education department and UNICEF. Experts from different agencies, including UNICEF, education department and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, are attending the workshop that would cover different aspects of course curriculum related to students of above-mentioned classes.
In his address, principal of State Institute of Education Faizur Rehman said that the objective behind organising the workshop was to review the current syllabus in accordance with the National Course Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005 and under the provisions of the Right to Education 2009 along with other essential guidelines.
He said that although recommendations of NCF 2005 had been incorporated in the most simple and easy language, the Right to Education 2009 states that it should be made less burdensome. In order to make the course curriculum more organised course curriculum of other states too would be reviewed.
Co-ordinator Anuradha Pandey said that experts from NCERT, New Delhi and Delhi University along with NCERT Bihar and senior teachers from DIET were participating in the workshop.
