MUMBAI: More than 5,000 employees working for the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan project across the state went on a strike on Monday to protest against the non-regularization of their services.
Most of these employees, who work as school teachers, engineers and data entry operators, have been working for more than 10 years and are still on contract. Around 200 of these employees are on an indefinite dharna at Azad Maidan. "We have refused to work. It is not fair. The state government used to employ us on six-month contract basis. Now, the government is even trying to reduce the staff. Despite having worked for nearly 12 years, there is no job security," said a teacher.
