Schools told to upload BPL seat info on sites

GURGAON: All private schools in the city have been directed by the district education officer to display information on availability of seats for students from below poverty line (BPL) and economically weaker section (EWS) on their notice boards as well as website by February 10.

Asking the schools to comply with all rules of Right to Education Act and Haryana School Education Rules, district education officer Vandana Gupta said private schools must reserve 10% seats for students from EWS and BPL families.

Parents of eligible kids can apply for admission by February 15. "All schools, which have been allotted land by government agencies, have been asked to send a list of reserved seats to district education officer.

Strict action will be taken against administration of schools which don't follow the RTE in letter and spirit," said an education department official.

So far, only 10 schools have declared the seats available for BPL and EWS students. Last year, many private schools in the city failed to comply with the norms of RTE Act. tnnSuch schools were served show-cause notices and were issued warning by the state education department.
