Special equipment to ease disabled students' lives

THANE: The Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) education board plans to provide commode chair with pot and modified cerebral palsy (CP) chair to differently-abled students of both civic-run schools and private schools under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan shortly. Tenders have been invited for the same.
Around 23 students from both TMC and private schools will benefit from this scheme. For the first time TMC's education board has shortlisted so many differently abled students from the civic body limits to be privileged of the chairs.
"We have just floated tenders to procure as many as 17 commode chair and 11 CP chairs to be distributed among 23 students," said Dr Ganpat More, TMC education officer.
Once the tender process is complete by next month award of contract will follow suit, said Dr More. An estimated cost for 28 numbers of chairs is pegged at 1.62 lakh and the required fund has been already channelized by central government under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. When the cost of each commode chair is Rs 1, 250 the CP chair will cost to the tune of Rs 12, 500. "The beneficiaries will be given the chairs by January," said Dr More.
