The survey conducted by the Education Department to track Out of School Children (OOSC) in the State has hit a road block owing to shortage of staff.
Officials , however, point out that a proposal sent to the State government to sanction Rs. 5 crore for the survey, was pending decision.
According to officials in the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) received Rs. 1.2 crore for the survey. “However, the funds were allocated for cities only. But soon after the High Court took up the case suo motu with regard to OOSC, we have decided to conduct the survey across the State, which will require more funds.”
With only two days left for the survey, the government has yet to give its nod .
The Hindu on Monday had reported about the shortage of manpower for the survey and how NGO representatives were not willing to come forward as their daily allowance is fixed at Rs. 50.
Responding to this, Primary and Secondary Education Minister, Kimmane Ratnakar said that he would comment on the issue after consulting with the officials of the department.
