Unaided schools must fill underprivileged student quota

BANGALORE: The department of public instruction has issued a circular to all deputy directors of public instruction (DDPI) and block education officers (BEO) to fill the quota of seats (25%) reserved in unaided schools for underprivileged children under the Right to Education Act for the academic year 2014-15.

The department issued this circular on Monday following directions of the high court,

According to the circular, if an unaided school doesn't receive enough applications to fill the 25% quota, DDPIs and BEOs have to identify school dropouts, orphaned children, migrating laborers' children and disabled kids in the vicinity of the school and offer them admission.

The department has also ordered unaided schools to provide reasons for not filling the quota in 2013-14 in the form of affidavits on or before February 20.
