NAGPUR: State government has finally revised the rates for midday meal scheme that is being implemented at government and government-aided schools. The revision of rate has already been done by the central government, which foots 75% of the bill, but the state had not notified the schools yet. The notification issued on December 6 mentions that the central government has approved a hike of 7.5% for the 2013-14 academic session. In fact a central government appointed committee had mentioned in its report that the state is not paying revised rates to school and wrote to the state in October asking them to rectify the mistake. It does seem that the state finally acted on that letter and issued this GR with revised rates. TOI had reported earlier that schools are not in favour of implementing midday meal scheme and want their teachers to be kept out of this.
