The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) has urged the Central and State governments to follow a single window system of admission for filling up 25 per cent reserved seats in private, aided and un-aided schools under the RTE Act.
“There are irregularities in selection of students under the RTE Act by private schools. Since admission is funded by the government, it should be done like in the Government quota seats for medical and engineering admissions. The application should be issued directly from the Education Department and selection method and admission should be transparent and foolproof,” MDMK state youth wing secretary V Eswaran said in his petition to the State and Central government.
The party has urged that 25 per cent reservation under the Act should be divided among the weaker and disadvantaged categories.
Eswaran said, “All students coming under the RTE Act should be provided with free books and uniforms without differentiating whether they got admission in a private or a government school.”
