Education officer directed to supply Urdu text books

AURANGABAD: Municipal commissioner Harshdeep Kamble on Thursday directed education officer in Aurangabad Municipal Corporation, A M Shaikh, to procure Urdu medium school text books from the corporation fund and supply it to students by next September 13.

In the civic-run Shahabazar school, students are yet to receive some books in Urdu medium.

Under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the students were supposed to get free of cost text books. However, during his school visit to Shahabazar area Kamble found that students of class 8, 9 and 10 were without text books.

The municipal commissioner promised the students to make arrangements from the corporation funds. He said the municipal body would supply books to all the students who did not get books under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. He also gave his cellphone number to two students in the school and asked them to inform him once they get the books within a week.

On condition of anonymity, a senior official in the AMC said, "The books were not available with us so we could not supply it," he said.
