Mission to streamline mid-day meal scheme

GUWAHATI: The state government announced on Monday that a separate directorate or a mission would be set up to streamline the mid-day meal scheme in the state. This was decided at a review meeting to assess the performance of the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), which was attended by chief minister Tarun Gogoi, state education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and senior officials of the SSA here on Monday.

Gogoi emphasized the need for taking up the teachers' training as a mission to produce quality teachers in the state. The chief minister said that the government would pump in funds to meet the deficit in this year's SSA budget for civil construction work amounting to Rs 400 crore.
