V. Easwaran, state youth wing secretary of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), has urged the Department of School Education to reimburse within the stipulated time, the fees of students admitted in private schools under Right To Education (RTE) Act quota.
In a letter to the Chief Educational Officer of Coimbatore, he said that even though the Act was passed in 2009, it was implemented with full vigour in Tamil Nadu only during the current academic year.
Thousands of students were getting free education in private schools across Tamil Nadu.
The Department of School Education had announced that Coimbatore was among the top performers in admitting students under the RTE Act.
As per the data provided by Chief Educational Officer of Coimbatore, around 2,000 students were admitted to private schools here under the RTE Act quota.
However, he said that it was troubling to note the private schools were yet to be reimbursed the fees of RTE Act quota students even though September was the deadline. This could cause difficulties for the students and parents who may be asked by the private schools to pay the fees.
To safeguard the interests of students from economically weaker sections, Mr. Easwaran urged the Department of School Education to ensure the fees were reimbursed as per schedule.
