RTE lottery held for state board schools

BHOPAL: Lottery for admissions under Right to Education (RTE) Act for 28,000 schools across Madhya Pradesh took place on Tuesday. Some 1,300 schools in Bhopal fall under RTE ambit.

State co-ordinator for RTE Ramakant Tiwari said that admission for class I in schools under Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) was held. RTE act provides 25% reservation for underprivileged children in schools.

Officials said that exact number of applications received and allotted would only be known in the next few days. This year, Rajya Shiksha Kendra has not involved district education office in the process.

"After the report is tabulated, a second round of lottery would take place for vacant seats in schools, which would be conducted in coming weeks," he added.

Lottery for about 2,000 seats reserved for underprivileged children under RTE Act in CBSE schools would take place at a later date.
