Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers threaten to boycott poll duty

ITANAGAR: The teaching community under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan ( SSA) in Arunachal Pradesh has decided to abstain from performing election duty in the coming Lok Sabh and assembly polls in protest against non-payment of their salaries for the last six months.

In a letter to the chief electoral officer on Tuesday, the All Arunachal Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers' Association ( AASSATA) said the decision was taken with consideration from several of its representatives serving in districts as they have not been paid their salaries for the last six months.

"From October last year to March this year, the state government has failed to disburse our hard-earned salaries," the association said in the letter. It, however, maintained that the decision would be revoked if the state government made the pending payment by March 15.
