SSA teachers meet DPI to demand regularisation, 15 days’ casual leave

SSA teachers meet DPI to demand regularisation, 15 days’ casual leave

As Kamlesh Kumar took over the charge of DPI (S) on September 18, teachers' unions are busy presenting their pending demands and issues to him, claiming some issues were nearing the final stage, with ex-DPI Upkar Singh all set to give them approval.
Members of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), on Friday, met the new DPI (S) to put forth demands of regularisation of their services and being granted 15 days casual leave.
Surinder Hooda, chief advisor of SSA said, "The education department has been releasing our arrears since 2008 from the month of April to September, but last year we didn't receive any arrears. Due to this, Rs 50,000 is pending per teacher. Last year, our salary increment was announced in September and the department denied our arrears for the previous months. We demand we should be given our arrears.
"It has been two years that we have been demanding the regularisation of SSA teachers. It is an important issue which needs to be addressed. More than 800 SSA teachers look up to the education department to regularise their services," Surinder added.
Meanwhile, president Kuldeep Jangra, he said, "The Punjab government provides casual leave of 15 days but we are given only 10 days. We took up this issue with Upkar Singh and the education secretary, VK Singh, who gave approval over the issue. But now the new DPI (S) has taken charge, we hope he'll consider our issue on priority basis."
