‘DEVELOPMENT WORKS EXPEDITED IN MAOISTS-HIT DISTS’

Developmental activities in various sectors have been expedited in all Maoist-hit districts in the State during the current year.
This was stated during talks held between Union Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sihna and Chief Secretary AP Padhi through videoconferencing on Monday.
Issues relating to electrification, telecommunication, road and bridge construction, supply of renewable energy, education and literacy, Rastriya Secondary Education Abhiyan, construction of girls hostels, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and skill development were discussed.
The Chief Secretary stated that electricity has been supplied to all villagers in the Maoist-affected district. As many as 7, 647 solar power-run pumps for drawing of drinking water and 807 such pumps for providing irrigation facility have been put in service. A total of 36,530 solar lanterns have been distributed.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has been requested to supply more numbers of solar power-run pumps, lanterns and street lights, the Chief Secretary informed the Cabinet Secretary.
Padhi further informed that teaching has started in 102 new schools in Koraput and 56 schools in Malkangiri. As many as 21 girls hostels are being contructed in these two districts now. All 21 Kasturaba Gandhi Girls’ High Schools have started operating with enrolment of a total of 2,100 students. Similarly, five ITI s and 10 skill development centres have been constructed.

Informing that 2,040 gram panchayats in Maoist-affected districts don’t have bank branches, the Chief Secretary requested the Cabinet Secretary to take steps in this regard.
